From Kingsbridge Quay to Thurlestone

This ia a pleasant walk which takes in two villages, some good beaches and cliff views. The walking is relatively easy with plenty of places to stop for a seat and spend time letting the world go by !

Take the 162 service form Kingsbridge Quay to Thurlestone Village and get off outside the village shop, the church is close by and worth a visit. Set off down the road that the bus went after you got off! This leads down to Thurlestone Golf Club, turn right into the Club and walk along the road that goes right in front of the club house, just pass the club house watch out for golfers driving off the 1st Tee to your right!

You will find Thurlestone beach at the end of the road which turns into a track after a quarter of a mile you will reach South Milton Sands, you can choose to turn right onto the beach and walk to the far end or alternatively go straight across the wooden walking bridge that crosses the mash land.  Above the beach on the left there is a beach cafe for an ice cream, cream tea etc, the cafe is run by a Scotsman called Rocky who is our local line dancing caller during the winter!

At the end of the beach join the road, there is a bird sanctuary on the left. The road turns sharp left by a thatched barn and you will find a footpath on the corner to the right which heads back to the sea. Follow the footpath up along the cliffs to Hope Cove, the views are fantastic and the little coves below are the home to seals in the winter. Hope Cove has three beaches a shop and a pub. It is a relaxing  " traditional seaside holiday village " and usually bustling with visitors. At the very far end of the village you will find the Old Lifeboat house and just a little further out of the village there is a beautiful cluster of traditional Devon cottages just to the right. When you have explored the village and it is time to go home you need to find the Sun Bay Hotel which lies between Inner and Outer Hope, the 162 bus leaves from this point to return to Kingsbridge.
